Storm drain stenciling is a great way to get volunteer groups involved in community water quality education. Past groups have included eagle scouts, church groups, school groups and others.

Most stenciling projects will take a few hours. You will be matched with an area in need of stenciling in a high priority watershed and given ready to go kits from the City. Using precut stencils and white street spray paint, you will stencil "Dump No Waste, Drains to Lake" next to storm drains. This helps remind people that our storm drains connect directly to our lakes, rivers and wetlands without being treated! Projects will also often include handing out fliers to residents in the neighborhood that explain what the stencils are all about and what people can do to improve water quality.

If you are interested in storm drain stenciling, please contact Caleb Ashling, Natural Resources Technician for the City of Burnsville by email or calling 952-895-4543.

Please contact at least two weeks in advance of when you would like to start your project, to ensure enough time to get your equipment together and to create maps of the area to be stenciled.  More information on the stenciling program can be found here.
